Are we going to feed the world using organic or conventional farming? An interesting debate, but in the real world it will be some combination of best practices from both schools of thought. More important than “how we feed the world” is “what we feed the world.” And I think we should be thinking beans.
Describe the ideal crop for a hungry planet. Easy to grow in a wide variety of climates. High in protein. Not dependent on supplimental Nitrogen. Can be made shelf stable with minimal energy input. Suitable for farmers or gardeners of all sizes. Vast genetic diversity.
Yep. Beans.
