In our American mythology, farms are where our heroes come from. Raised on hardworking, pastoral American values, our culture’s heroes leave the farm to fulfill their destiny… striking it rich in the big city, becoming a movie star, winning the World Series, or distinguishing themselves in battle. Clark Kent was raised on a farm, but he had to go to Metropolis to become Superman.
But now that were have hardly any rural population left, will our cultural heroes become those who return to the farm, rather than leave it?
